Framing Mostly Done – July 14, 2008

July 15, 2008

Framing started on June 9th, so around 5 weeks later, the majority of the main structure is done. There are still stairs to build and sheeting off a few walls, but we are almost ready for rough plumbing and a roof. I am trying to source some recycled beams for the front porch, and the framers will also come back for window installs in a couple of weeks.

Post and Beams Up – July, 7, 2008

July 8, 2008

The boom truck was busy this morning lifting 4 large beams into place plus the posts to support (plus some other material). They also have started putting the roof stringers up in the loft area. They are expecting by end of day Thursday to have the roof sheeted, so changes are still in the air. Speaking of changes, we are changing the loft deck to be more open than originally planned.

They made good progress on the loft today, and it proved to be a great place to watch nature. An osprey, a nutrea, and a cute little girl were all sighted!!!!!

More Prows Up II – June 29, 2008

June 30, 2008

It was an interesting contrast Friday to see 8 men straining to lift side 1 of the prow wall, and hours later to see a crane mostly idling as it lifted the much heavier second side which already had headers in for the windows. It’s also interesting that the 8 showed up on time, and the volunteer crew left just 20-30 minutes later, while the lift truck was more than an hour late!!!! The top of the prow is just less than 35′ high.

One Prow Wall built but not up. Several large beams to support the loft went up, and they started sheeting the loft floor.
